Norivirith

Small monstrosity, unaligned


The Norivirith, an unusual life-form that emerged in the depths of dungeons and subterranean keeps during and after the Time of the Shattering, originated from a peculiar combination of discarded magical experiments and local flora. These plants, imbued with a rudimentary form of intelligence and the ability to slowly move, congregated in small herds that roamed the halls of these underground places. Wizards and sorcerers, recognizing their usefulness as sentries and experimental subjects, allowed them to thrive and multiply. Over time, these creatures developed a defense mechanism in the form of a piercing, high-pitched shriek capable of inflicting pain and repelling perceived threats. This distinctive adaptation earned them the nickname “Screamer.”

Norivirith take the form of compact shrubs, typically standing between three and four feet in height and measuring two to three feet across. Their sturdy, bark-like bodies are traversed by sinuous, fleshy roots that enable their slow movements, while a dense crown of foliage adorns their tops. Within this foliage, several tube-like appendages serve as their means of respiration and produce the sharp, ear-piercing screech for which they are named. The screech is swift and immensely painful, affecting not only those who can hear it but also individuals who are immune to auditory stimuli, as the frequency and volume of the sound are equally effective.

Following the downfall of Lord Ataxis and the subsequent abandonment of the rogue wizards' strongholds, the Norivirith continued their gradual propagation, persisting as a unique and intriguing presence within the depths of Anaias' dungeons and underground realms. Their ability to adapt and defend themselves through their potent vocal weapon makes them a formidable and eerie addition to the beasts of Anaias.
