Storms of Anaias

Athilalarûn, Land of the Banewinds

Stretching across an expansive area of 70,000 square miles, the Athilalarûn marshlands stand as a desolate and treacherous landscape, tainted by the corruption that emanated from the Time of the Shattering. Within this unforgiving environment, the resilient Elves of the Alus Soeh have made their home, dedicating themselves to the arduous task of purging the land of its blight and the abominations that dwell within.

Once, in the year 2905 AS, this land was home to the flourishing woodlands of the Bloodthorn Fens, nestled within the vast grasslands of Ahnvae Nar in the southeastern reaches of Urngor. It lay south of the foothills of the Hlavor Zana and served as the ancestral homeland of the Nar Tirith, with their capital, the Graniteblade Stronghold, standing proudly since the early days of the First Age. However, during the cataclysmic events of the Time of the Shattering, the powerful surges of mana originating from the epicenter of the catastrophe in the north unleashed dark and destructive storms upon the land, decimating the plant life and polluting the once pristine waters. The invading hordes loyal to Lord Ataxis added to the devastation, ultimately leading to the bitter end of the Elven community of Nar Tirith, leaving behind a wasteland of desolation.

In the Second Age, the Athilalarûn landscape is predominantly characterized by blighted marshes, where sickening brackish waters dominate the scene. Only a few isolated natural springs have managed to escape the clutches of the living corruption that infests the land. The air itself carries a heavy burden of humid decay, mingling with the putrid stench of rotting vegetation. Within this unforgiving terrain, the Alus Soeh traverse the land in communal caravans, tirelessly searching for sources of corruption and means by which their people can be sustained. Among the limited resources available, only the Elves possess the knowledge of which plants and insects are safe for consumption. Trade within the boundaries of Athilalarûn is scarce, primarily focused on supporting the Alus Soeh caravans or procuring research materials necessary for studying and combating maladies that afflict other parts of Urngor.

Enduring everlasting sorrow and immense hardship, the Alus Soeh navigate the harshness of their sworn home. The memory of their lost kin from Nar Tirith serves as a painful reminder of the past, further burdening their hearts. Nevertheless, driven by duty and unwavering determination, the Elves of the Alus Soeh continue their tireless efforts to reclaim Athilalarûn from the clutches of corruption and restore harmony to this blighted land.
