Reach of Uxmal
The Reach of Uxmal was established in 1488 AS by a nomadic tribe that settled into the plateaus, caves, and cliffside walls of the western peaks of the Spireshard Mountains. It has evolved into a federation of smaller communities known as the Colonies, surrounded by natural, constructed, and arcane barriers. These Colonies are interconnected through sturdy masonwork bridges, forming a network that resembles an open hand reaching toward the sky.
The Aranhas Vermelhas Colony, located on the largest plateau called Palma da Māo, serves as the seat of the governing body of the Reach. It is a central hub from which the other Colonies branch out. Areia Colony is dedicated to communal farmland, cultivating hardy vegetables and fruits. Dobras Colony is home to the learning institutions where families and tradesmen acquire knowledge and skills. Aço Colony houses and trains the formidable military forces of the Reach. Fera Colony is responsible for tending to the livestock and beasts of burden used by the Reach. Fechadura Colony, on the other hand, is the bustling artisan and merchant district where skilled craftsmen and merchants thrive.
Although the Uxmali people are generally peaceful, their society is guarded and cautious when interacting with outsiders. In the tumultuous Time of the Shattering, the Colonial leaders made the decision to isolate themselves from the rest of the world, remaining in seclusion until well into the Second Age. However, two renowned heroes from the First Age, Warlord Itza and his daughter Tula, emerged from the Colonies to aid in the fight against Lord Ataxis. Their heroic deeds are immortalized in statues scattered throughout the Colonial lands.
In 122 DD, the Colonial government decided to initiate diplomatic relations with other communities in Urngor, leading to the establishment of communication and potential trade. Over the centuries, the Reach has become renowned for its highly sought-after exotic textiles, clothing, and jewelry. While citizens of the Reach are free to travel in and out, visitors are required to obtain passes issued by the Colonial government. It is important to note that access to the Aço Colony, where the military is stationed, is strictly forbidden to outsiders.
