In the Depths of Madness
After the group met at the entry of the abandoned Library Steps, Theron explained to the group their quest and the importance of their success. The brave souls descended through the keep and entered the labyrinthine halls of the Knowing Depths. Once there, they were confronted with dangerous creations and allies of darkness along with challenges of strength, endurance, and arcane mastery.
Through perseverance and courage, the group eventually reached the deepest recesses of the dungeon, where the Stone of Ful had been embedded within the Forge-Mountain's roots. By removing the blight of the Gray Lord's failed magic and searching the abandoned study for hints of how to defeat Lord Ataxis, the group made a startling discovery: Lord Ataxis and Lord Librasulus were fractures of Kerei Akír, separated during the original accident.
Lord Ataxis embodied the Gray Lord's chaos, his desire to disrupt the Balance, amass greater power, and planning steps for ascending to godhood. Lord Librasulus, on the other hand, embodied his discipline, seeking to impose rigid order and stagnation upon all things. With the wisdom gained through their exploration, the champions were able to confront Lord Ataxis with the goal to reunify the Gray Lord's being.
Returning to the lower levels of the dungeon to confront Lord Ataxis directly, the champions battled through ethereal beings, warped monstrosities, servant demons, and a red dragon, all determined to stop their advance. Overcoming these seemingly impossible odds, they stood before Lord Ataxis. His tall form shrouded in a dark aura of necrotic energy and shadowy mana, his hideous form so close to that of Kerei Akír but with a twisted visage and sepulchral voice echoing insults and derangements from every shadow.
Though the confrontation was fierce, the champions were able to defeat Lord Ataxis and hold him while Theron cast the final, harrowing arcane formula that would summon Lord Librasulus to the Prime Material Plane and fuse the two fragments together, restoring Kerei Akír. With apparent success, and the grateful Kerei Akír, the surging mana flows subsided and the marauder forces under the banner of Lord Ataxis were finally disbanded or defeated. Kerei Akír was able to restore the whole form of Theron Bhaird, while the Hallowed Champions who had overcome the great darkness that had ravaged the world of Anaias parted ways.
Though Theron and the Hallowed Champions had succeeded in their dangerous quest, the damage to the world had already been done. The Elven nation of Nar Tirith was lost with only a few escaping survivors, now in hiding, and the refugees from other worlds found themselves displaced and stranded in a new, unfamiliar world. The Highlords, once guardians and forerunners of the great Balance of All Things, were slain. Yet, this would not mark the end of the Shattering.
